December of 2006 sees us heading south to Mexico for 6 weeks. This time we go through Lake Chapala, getting stuck in the small town of Mezcala on the Lake, being pushed out of our predicament by the entire town (handprints on the rear window of the Rialta being the only evidence! :-). After Lake Chapala we head over past Guadalajara to the coast at Playa Chacala, where we stay for a few days, keeping company with another Canadian couple who had also shipped a RV to Europe - they lent us their bodyboards & we had a grand time in the surf! Traveling south, we pause in Puerto Vallarta before hugging the coast around to Manzanilla, along the way we freecamp in Playa Lamorita with a bunch of Canadians, celebrating a great potluck Xmas dinner replete with "Mexican Egg Nog" - a very cheap yellow rum drink called hollandes or some such... Also camped at the turtle sanctuary at Maruata. Heading north from Lazaro Cardenas, we revisit Patzcuaro, heading to Juan Horta's house/mask shop in Tocuaro, only to arrive in the midst of his funeral... he had just passed... a very sad day...
Next we drive northwest to check out guitars in Paracho, then head up to Guanajuato for a couple of days before heading back to Laredo.
